Writing is my favorite way to release creative energy. Fortunately, I chose the right career and education path to do so. As a marketer, I have written copy for everything from social media posts to television commercials. As a communication professional, I have written press releases, media advisories, newsletters, internal memos and everything in between. As a graduate student in the Applied Communication program at the University of Michigan – Flint, I wrote like I was running out of time (bonus points for those who get the reference.) Much of the coursework involved writing case studies, which allowed us to delve into the material we were studying as it related to current events, and portfolio pieces that were a culmination of what we learned over the course the entire semester. The applied communication program helped understand and identify communication theory in real-world scenarios, which allows me to adjust communication style as needed to meet the task at hand.
